How we focus on sustainability

DM Wheel Systems supplies industrial products. It is our goal to always deliver high quality products, but that does not mean that we do not take the environment into account. This is how we achieve our goal.

Products for the long term

For us, quality means that our wheel solutions not only operate well, but they must have a long lifespan too. We consciously opt for long-term solutions, which results in sustainable products. So, not a wheel that needs to be replaced every three years, but one that lasts for twenty years. That is more expensive at the time of the purchase, but less expensive in the long run and so much better for the environment.

Recycle residual products

Making our wheels produces residual products, or better said, raw materials. As new products can be made from those residual products. For example, pieces of iron such as curls and sheet metal can be melted down into new iron. Therefore, we collect all our residual products, such as the remains of iron, paper, cardboard and chemical waste, in our own recycling point. Occasionally, these residual products are distributed to processors who use it as a raw material, as a circular economy.

Clean factory for people as well as the environment

We are careful with both the environment and our people. For that reason, we use water-based paint, which is more difficult to apply than turpentine-based paint, but this way our employees are not exposed to harmful vapours and it is less harmful to nature.

In our welding department we have a very extensive extraction system with a strong filter. During welding, smoke is released that can contain iron particles. Therefore, our people wear a helmet and bib, so they don't breathe in smoke. During extraction, the iron particles are filtered out of the smoke. We collect these iron particles in a bin, because even these small pieces of waste are brought to our own recycling point for reuse.

Factory filled with solar panels and LED lamps

When we expanded our factory last year, it was a great opportunity to make the workspace more sustainable. We have LED lamps in the factory, a total of 1,120 solar panels on all roofs and a roof garden, so that even in this industrial environment nature is present.

Lean & green

Making our production process more sustainable has put us in a different mindset. We now focus on being lean & green in all facets of our work. For example, our salespeople used to drive from Zaandam to our head office in Boxtel once every two weeks. Now, we conduct this meeting through a video call. On an annual basis, that saves us around 12,000 kilometres of driving. This seems like only minor details, but if you put all these minor details together, it really makes a difference.

Approved and certified

We are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accredited since 2012. And when the Environment Agency of Noord Brabant (ODNB) visited us at the end of 2018 to check if our working environment was safe and clean, we were told that there was no room for improvement. Of course, we are very proud of that. Delivering quality and yet being sustainable, that is what we stand for and we will continue to do so!
